Herb Profile: Rue
Rue Ruta graveolens
Rue has been used since ancient times in many different ways including as a seasoning, medicine, and as a protection plant against the plague. It was a common herb thought to keep away witches. Used in cooking, it has a bitter undertone and we use it less today in modern day cooking. Rue is known for occasionally causing contact dermatitis - especially if you are handling the plant in hot sunny weather. We recommend handling with gloves if you are wanting to be cautious.
