Herb Profile: Linden

Linden Tilia spp

Linden is one of our favorite plants to use for medicine. It is a beautiful tree, and the flowers that resemble little fireworks start to pop around July 4th. We love adding linden flowers and leaves into daily tea blends, especially when wanting some calming energy. The linden flower is used to treat colds, flus, fevers and hypertension. It is also a nervine and is used to ease anxiety. Linden flowers contain flavonoids that promote good circulation and have a positive and calming effect on the heartbeat. Drinking a tea of linden flowers can ease heartache. Linden also has diuretic properties and supports the kidney and liver.

The Herbal Academy has a great write up about linden, and Commonwealth Herbs has shared lots of valuable information on their podcast

Preparations: a tea blend for colds, flus, and fevers

Combine equal parts linden blossoms, chamomile, and elder blossoms. This blend will boost immunity and is a diaphoretic blend to help move and promote perspiration.
