Herb Profile: Gotu Kola

Gotu kola, Centella asiatica

Gotu kola has been used medicinally in Asia as a tonic for treating memory loss, stress, worry, and foggy thinking. In Ayurvedic medicine it is considered a tonic for overall vitality. This herb is generally helpful for people who have trouble concentrating, and is an aid in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Gotu kola is also used for healing burns and wounds and can help to minimize scarring. Juliet Blankespoor shares in her book “The Healing Garden” that gotu kola is the primary herb that she uses for tissue repair after surgery or injury. It promotes wound healing through its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial qualities.
