Herb Profile: Motherwort, Chinese

Chinese Motherwort, Leonorus japonicus

Chinese Motherwort is a beautiful plant in the mint family that  grows low to the ground in its first year and shoots up a tall six foot stalk with flowers in its second year. Chinese motherwort is used similarly to the motherwort more commonly used in the west, Leonorus cardiaca. It invigorates the blood, and provides support for illnesses around irregular, excessive, painful menstruation and post partum abdominal pain.
